Dr. Aboud S. Jumbe is the Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries in Zanzibar, part of the United Republic of Tanzania. Dr. Jumbe has actively participated in various dialogues and development processes related to the implementation of ocean governance, blue economy, and marine spatial planning, with a particular focus on the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) and the Nairobi Convention area of UNEP.
Furthermore, Dr. Jumbe has been involved in programs related to blue economy initiatives in the Western Indian Ocean region, supported by organizations such as the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and UNDP. As part of the UNEP Nairobi Convention, Dr. Jumbe has participated in various initiatives of the Marine Regions Forums and has worked on developing an ocean governance strategy within the context of regional seas programs. This approach aims to establish effective and multilateral partnerships for the future management of areas beyond national jurisdiction, particularly in the Western Indian Ocean region.
Dr. Jumbe has been a member of various platforms and initiatives related to the ocean in the Western Indian Ocean region, including the "Marine Regions Forum" and "Our Blue Future." He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (General) in Botany, Chemistry, and Zoology from the University of Delhi (2000). Additionally, he holds master's and doctoral degrees in environmental science from the University of Bangalore in India.
